“Old Foiler” by Kurt Meyer-Eberhardt "Foiler" affectionally known as “Old Foiler”, was the first fox terrier registered by the Kennel Club in Britain, circa 1875-76.Born circa 1870-71, Foiler was owned by the one of the most famous Smooth Fox Terrier fanciers and breeders Mr Henry Gibson of Lymington ‘Brockenhurst Terriers’ from the New Forrest, Hampshire. Gibson had bought Foiler for £100 from the equally famous Mr G Whitmore. Foiler was sired by Grip ( known as “Old Grip” (KC registered 1154)), and dammed by the Reverend Jack Russell’s ‘Judy’ or ‘Juddy’ by Grove Willie (kennel club registered 1163) ex Vixen.
In Gibson’s Brockenhurst Terrier kennel Foiler was to become the direct male ancestor of about 90 per cent of Smooth Fox Terrier (Lines A, B, S and O).
Gibson is perhaps the most important breeder of the Smooth Fox Terrier.
